How to do Glass painting – Tutorial for beginners

Painting on Glass: Glass painting can be done by anyone its one of the simplest painting method. No great painting or drawing skills required, a little practice and patience is all you need. But you should be cautious while working in glass you have to handle it very carefully so for the beginning stage while you want to practice and in Glass painting there is an easy way without using actual glass. You can use OHP sheet.

OHP Sheet

For beginners to practice Glass painting using OHP sheet. So let me teach you how to make a simple and beautiful Glass painting using an OHP sheet.

You need:

•      OHP Sheet
•      A design to be copied
•      Glass paint
•      Glass Out-liner
•      Cardboard
•      Silver Foil
•      Tape
•     A soft cloth to wipe excess paint

Method:

• Take a clean OHP sheet
• Place the OHP sheet on top of the design now secure both in place with painters tape or any tape. Make sure this arrangement doesn’t move or shake until you finish your painting.
• Now trace the outlines of the design on the OHP using glass outliner. Slowly squeeze from the top of the Liner tube.
  Start from the top and proceed to the bottom of the design. Make thicker lines, don’t put very thin lines it make Glass paint flowing outside the lines.
• You can use 3D Fabric liners in Golden color for the ornaments and for glittery work in the girl’s dress.
• Once you complete outlining the design. Allow it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes. In case you made any mistakes in the outline don’t worry you can peel it of once it is dry. Don’t wipe while wet.
• After the outline is dry you can start filling colors inside the design.
• Choosing the colors you need. While pouring the colors avoid air bubbles. If you got bubbles break them with a needle.
• If the lines are thin the adjacent colors may mix up. Let them dry and fill alternatively.
• Once the design is completed allow it to dry for 30 to 40 minutes. Now remove the OHP sheet carefully from the board. Reverse it and Frame it using a thick cardboard and Tape.
• You can place crushed silver foil behind the painting as background while framing it.
• Your first gorgeous glass painting ready!!!

You can buy glass pieces from the near market or buy a glass cutting kit available in the market. It will help you to cut glasses of your choice.

Painting Wine Glasses

Painting tall wine glasses can turn an ordinary, old wine glass into a beautiful work of art by simply following these techniques.

Requirements:

Glass paint
Wine glass
Painting brush

Draw the design or pattern of your choice on the trace paper. Take a wine glass, preferably with a smooth surface because it's easy to draw on them and handle them for painting. You can also use glasses with cut outs that will give a different look to your painting. Prepare shades by mixing the colors or you can use the paint directly. Paint the glass from outside and wait for at least an hour to apply the second layer. Use one color at a time. Let the paint dry completely and protect it from dust. 

Revers Glass Painting

Requirements:

• Cleaning Fluids / Glass Cleaning Solution

• Painting surfaces ( Glass ,Mirror ,Clear Plastic, Acetate Sheets(transparent sheets) or Bottles )

• Glass Colors what you prefer

• Out liner ready made or can make at home .

• Cotton Buds & Cotton roll(Cotton buds are invaluable for mopping up the Mistakes.)

• Pattern/Design


Steps

1.  Clean your glass with Dry cotton then with Glass cleaner or thinner or with water.
2.  Set your Design or pattern under the Glass on a plain surface like Table.
3. Use the Out liner and Draw the design over the glass.
4. Then Let the Out liner for some time like 15 or 20 minutes to dry.
5. Then color it with your favorite colors. If any color comes out then use cotton buds to adjust it .And Use thinner if any color comes out the Design or dropped on any area of the surface.
6. Let it Dry....and now your First painting is ready. Frame it and hang it.

steps:-

• clean the glass so as to get a smooth surface.
• Select a pattern which has clear outlines
• Trace the pattern on a piece of paper which is exactly the size of the glass piece.
• Keep the glass on the patterned piece of paper aligning them perfectly.
• Make outlines of the pattern on the glass with the help of glass liner.
• Leave the pattern to dry up
• Now use the colors to fill in the pattern with uni-directional strokes
• If any bubbles are made in the colors while painting, then pierce them with needle or a pin.
• Allow the painting to dry for at least 24 hours.
• You can use beads, glitter, and sequins into the wet paint before it dries for decorating the painting.
